Portals (‘Portale’ in German) can be seen as a gateway to another world. A portal from the outside to the inside. The inside is hidden by the door in the doorway until we open the portal and pass the threshold. Even if the door allows a limited look inside, we only see what we are supposed to see. Is what is visible the truth or a constructed play? What is actually behind the portal? Doors, doorframes, entrances have so many different styles and expressions although they all have the same function. Does the door match the rest of the building? What could the building be, if we only see its door? Considering this, portals and doors can create a sense of wonder beside their artistic expression.
[ Portale ] extends the project about façades. Portals are an opening in the façade; a way to enter the interior world of a building and get a glimpse behind the façade.
