The façade of a building (‘Fassade’ in German) is the external view presented to the outside world. A buildings façade hides what is inside. Does the outer view match the inside? Or does the façade obfuscate the truth? Does the shiny, polished new exterior really front a nice and clean interior? Does a run down building front full with tags and graffiti necessarily harbor run down corridors and apartments? Unless we view behind the curtain, behind the façade, we may not know. Just like the façade or mask we humans put up at times when we interact.
